Resume
Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a rare life-threatening condition almost exclusively drug-related. The incidence in children is lower than in adults and has a better outcome. The main causative agents of TEN are sulfonamides and anticonvulsants, followed by penicillins and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In rare cases, paracetamol is the only drug suspected. Unlike adults, allopurinol, oxicams, and nevirapine are not identified as causative agents in children, probably due to differences in drug prescription.
Key words: causes of toxic epidermal necrolysis, children, main etiological factors, sulfonamides and anticonvulsants.
