Resume
The aim of this study was to determine the impairment of attention, memory, perception, thinking and executive function with varying degrees of mental defect in patients with schizophrenia. 126 patients were examined, the main group included 96 patients diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and the control group consisted of 30 patients suffering from schizophrenia spectrum disorders. The severity of the mental defect was determined on the basis of the decision of the medical commission. With a moderate degree of severity of a mental defect, such impairments of cognitive functions were revealed as: a decrease in attention to a mild degree, a decrease in mnestic function to a moderate degree, a decrease in the level of generalizations to a moderate degree, a distortion of the process of generalizations to a moderate degree, a violation of the motivational-personal component of thinking in a mild degree , reducing the level of criticality to a moderate degree. In schizophrenia, in comparison with schizophrenia spectrum disorders, cognitive dysfunctions are more pronounced and thinking disorders come to the fore. Cognitive dysfunctions with varying degrees of severity of a mental defect are not uniform, but differentiated. Patients with schizophrenia with a pronounced degree of mental defect are distinguished by a decrease in attention and mnestic function to a moderate degree, a decrease in the level of generalizations and a distortion of the process of generalizations to a pronounced degree, a violation of the motivational-personal component of thinking to a moderate degree, a decrease in the level of criticality to a pronounced degree.
Key words: memory, attention, perception, thinking, executive function, mental defect, schizophrenia.
