Resume
Currently, one of the urgent problems in anesthesiology is safe and adequate sedation in regional anesthesia. According to the basic principles of modern anesthesiology, safe and effective sedation should ensure the protection of the patient’s psycho-emotional sphere, the absence of awakening, the absence of pain and fear, the absence of nausea and vomiting in the postoperative period; at the same time, it should not cause respiratory depression and influence on hemodynamics, and should not be accompanied by a delayed recovery of psychomotor function. After studying the current literature and analyzing our own observations, we came to the conclusion that under conditions of regional anesthesia, sedation with dexmedetomidine is preferable, rather than propofol. Sedation with Dexmedetomidine leads to a decrease in the incidence of cognitive impairment in the early postoperative period, a decrease in the intensity of pain, a beneficial effect on recovery and activation after surgery, and is also associated with a lower incidence of hypoxemia and hypotension during surgery.
Keywords: sedation, regional anesthesia, dexmedetomidine.
