Resume

About 50% of patients with malignant ascites already have ascites at the initial visit to an oncologist. The occurrence and progression of ascites is associated with a deterioration in the quality of life and a poor prognosis.  However, to date, there are no generally accepted reasonable recommendations for the assessment and treatment of this pathological condition. Also, there are no clinical prognostic factors that would allow to identify patients who will develop ascites, and hence the conclusion that there are no preventive measures for its development.
