Resume
Relevance. Caudal teratoma (CT) is a complex multifactorial disease, the prediction of outcomes of which remains an unresolved problem.
Purpose – to determine the frequency of occurrence, to analyze the results of diagnosis and surgical treatment of CT scans in children based on clinical data.
Material and methods. The results of diagnostics and treatment of 96 children with CT at the age of 1 month to 3 years with caudal teratoma are presented. There were 58 (60.4%) girls and 38 (39.6%) boys. The final diagnosis was determined based on the results of histomorphological studies.
Results and discussion. Caudal teratomas are usually detected from birth. Most teratomas of this localization are benign, have a cystic or cystic-solid structure. Type 1 CT was diagnosed in 26 (27%) patients, type 2 – in 38 (39.6%), type 3 – in 10 (10.4%), type 4 – in 22 (23.0%) patients. Associated anomalies on CT were noted in 16 (16.6%) cases. In 16 (16.6%) cases, CT was installed before birth during prenatal examination of pregnant women. Teratomas, regardless of location, are subject to surgical removal as soon as possible after their detection. This prevents their excessive growth and the development of various complications. All patients with benign CT recovered after surgery. In 3 patients with tumor metastasis, a lethal outcome was noted against the background of a relapse.
Conclusions. Timely diagnosis and early radical CT surgery are decisive factors in reducing the incidence of adverse outcomes.
