Resume

The purpose of the work was to analyze the causes of complications and the results of surgical treatment for necrotizing enterocolitis in newborns.

We analyzed the results of treatment of 45 newborns (24-53.3% boys and 21-46.7% girls) diagnosed with NEC, admitted to the pediatric surgery department of our clinic for the period from 2018 to 2023. The age of the children varied from 3 to 14 days of life.

In the first 5 days of life, 11 (24.4%) newborns were admitted with a clinical picture of NEC, on the 6-8th day – 19 (42.2%), in later periods – 15 (33.4%) patients.

Conclusion: observations confirm the fact that late diagnosis and extreme prematurity are one of the main reasons for the high mortality rate in NEC in newborns, which largely depends on the timing of the diagnosis, the surgical stage of the disease, the severity of symptoms, competing diseases, complications of the underlying disease against the background of prematurity and immaturity the patient’s body as a whole.

Key words: complicated necrotizing enterocolitis in newborns, surgical treatment for necrotizing enterocolitis in newborns.
