Resume
Currently, myopia is one of the important problems of childhood and adolescence, requiring constant monitoring by ophthalmologists. Stabilization of myopia and, as a consequence, prevention of complications remain one of the most pressing issues in ophthalmology. It is known that the thickness of the corneal epithelium (CEP) is approximately 50 μm.
Purpose of the work: To study the thickness of the corneal epithelium and identify its correlation with age, clinical refraction, keratometry data, diameter and total thickness of the cornea in patients with myopia before selecting contact lenses. To investigate the reasons for changes in the epithelium while wearing CL.
Materials and methods: To determine the correlation of TER with keratometry data, total corneal thickness, as well as with age and clinical refraction in patients with myopia, a comprehensive clinical and instrumental ophthalmological examination was carried out in 66 patients (132 eyes) aged from 8 to 41 years.
Conclusion: The thickness of the corneal epithelium is an independent and independent parameter that does not correlate with age, clinical refraction, keratometry data, diameter and total thickness of the cornea. The incidence of early and late epitheliopathy in the total number of examined patients, according to our data, was 16.67 and 13.89%, respectively, while their ratio to each other was 54.55 and 45.45%, respectively.
Keywords: corneal thickness, contact lens, keratometry, myopia, optical coherence tomography.
