Resume
Recent advances in anesthesia practice have led to a deeper understanding of the blood coagulation system. It is important to recognize that coagulation is a dynamic process. Although the traditional classification into external and internal pathways remains relevant, recent data provide a clearer picture. The procoagulant pathway, which is responsible for initiating clot formation, is intricately balanced by mechanisms that limit its spread beyond the site of injury in the normal coagulation process. Serious illness or the postoperative period can disrupt this balance, which can be caused by a variety of conditions that increase the risk of bleeding or thrombosis. To effectively diagnose and eliminate coagulation abnormalities, physicians must understand the physiological basis of hemostasis. This understanding is also very important for the interpretation of diagnostic tests related to coagulation, because the imbalance of the coagulation system can lead to various clinical manifestations: bleeding or thrombosis.
Key words: thrombohemorrhagic syndrome, cascade theories, anesthesia, coagulation system, hemostasis system.
