Resume

Most parathyroid adenomas are typically located in the neck, but 15-20% have an atypical location. These cases, as a rule, present diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties. The use of a combination of instrumental methods (ultrasound, scintigraphy, CT and SPECT) made it possible to establish a parathyroid adenoma in the upper mediastinum at the level of the sternum handle before surgery. Sternotomy with removal of parathyroid adenoma turned out to be the best method for surgical treatment, which significantly improved the patient’s quality of life.
