PATHOMORPHOLOGICAL CHANGES IN THE VASCULAR COAT OF THE EYEBALL IN CAVERNOUS SINUS THROMBOSIS AS A COMPLICATION OF COVID-19

Resume
The aim of this study was to investigate the features of the inflammatory and necrotic processes in the tissues of the vascular coat of the eyeball (iris, ciliary body, and choroid) in patients with cavernous sinus thrombosis associated with COVID-19. It was found that SARS-CoV-2 infection leads to thrombosis of the cavernous sinus of the brain in the veins of the vascular coat of the eyeball, accompanied by pronounced circulatory disturbances, edema, and necrobiosis in all layers, along with lymphoproliferative inflammation in the interstitial layer. Due to the relatively pronounced development of circulatory changes in the ciliary body, which is a continuation of the vascular coat, the appearance of massive hemorrhages and tissue necrosis was observed.
Keywords: COVID-19; cavernous sinus thrombosis; vascular coat of the eyeball; pathomorphology.
