Resume

The objective of this research is to study and assess the peculiarities of composition of glycoproteins in oral fluid of patients with reactive dystrophic diseases of salivary glands.

Material and methods: 72 patients with reactive-dystrophic diseases of the salivary glands were examined.

It was found that high level of sialic acids in glycoproteins of oral fluid of patients with diseases of salivary glands is a compensatory factor that provides viscosity of the oral fluid, which, under physiological conditions and especially during physical exertion, provides barrier function of saliva. It is proved that increase in the hydrophobicity of oral fluid of the examined patients, associated with the increased content of fucose, testifies, on the one hand, to the viscosity of saliva in response to physical activity, and on the other hand, for synthesis increase of hydrophobic gastric mucus.
