NEUROMODULATION IN THE TREATMENT OF EPILEPSY: COMPARISON OF METHODS AND FUTURE STRATEGIES

Mukhanova D.D., -Family clinic №15, Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Resume

In this review, we presented an introduction to the neuromodulation methodology, a proposed mechanism of action for each neuromodulatory approach, a discussion of preclinical data supporting its use in humans, a summary of clinical data showing its effectiveness and side effects, and concluding observations on the future directions of each approach. The clinical discussion focuses on controlled trials where possible.

Key words: neuromodulation, epilepsy, electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve, response neurostimulation, deep brain stimulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, transcranial electrical stimulation.
