Resume
Penetrating injuries of the skull and brain are not uncommon in neurosurgical practice. The largest number of patients are injured as a result of gunshot and mine explosion wounds. In peacetime, penetrating wounds of the skull and brain with metal and non-metal objects in children are extremely rare in clinical practice. In the literature there are only isolated observations, small series of observations, and there are no recommendations. The article provides a clinical example of successful surgical treatment of pediatric patients with open severe penetrating traumatic brain injury. Following the proposed therapeutic and diagnostic algorithm for the management of patients with this pathology, proposed by the Republican Research Center for Emergency Medicine of the Republic of Uzbekistan, upon admission, the patients underwent emergency diagnostic procedures and emergency surgical treatment was performed in the volume. The primary severity of the injury and a staged approach to treatment made it possible to achieve positive clinical dynamics, as well as significantly reduce the risks to the patient’s life and carry out full rehabilitation in the shortest possible time.
Keywords: Traumatic brain injury, open penetrating craniocerebral injury, foreign body, craniotomy.
