Resume

The article presents the results of laparoscopic echinococcectomy for complicated echinococcosis of the liver in the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Minimally Invasive and Endoscopic Surgery of Childhood (RSPCMIESC) which was performed in 72 patients aged 6 to 18 years. Suppurated echinococcal cyst (EC) of the liver was one of the most common complications of this disease in 38 (52.8%) patients, rupture into the bile ducts was found in 14 (19.4%), in 16 (22.2%) patients cyst contents perforation into the free abdominal cavity was detected, in 4 (5.6%) cases calcified echinococcal cyst was found in the liver. In 81.9% (n=59) cases it was possible to successfully complete a diagnostic laparoscopy with echinococcectomy, while in 13 (18.1%) patients, due to technical difficulties, laparoscopic echinococcectomy was converted into laparotomy and traditional echinococcectomy of the liver. Based on the studies conducted and the results obtained, the authors conclude that complicated and multiple (up to 4 cysts) EC of the liver are a relative contraindication to laparoscopic echinococcectomy.

Keywords: echinococcosis of the liver; children; laparoscopic echinococcectomy.
