Resume

Measles, despite the more than 30-year history of vaccination, remains an important health problem not only in developing countries, but also in a number of developed countries. The introduction of vaccination has ensured success in the fight against measles, significantly reducing the incidence and mortality from this infection. In conditions of widespread active immunization, it was possible to achieve a significant and stable decrease in the incidence and further decrease in the severity of measles (Musabaev I.K., 1988; Yunusova H.A., 1982; Mahmudov O.S., Askarova D.A., 2001). However, despite the effectiveness of vaccination and a decrease in the incidence of single cases in some countries of the world, epidemic outbreaks occur every 3 or 4 years (Tatochenko V.K., 2000; Askarova D.A., 2000). Epidemic rises are due to a number of reasons, the main of which are low (<90%) immunization coverage of the population and the formation of a non-immune layer among children; weakening of vaccination immunity in timely vaccinated individuals over the years (Tatochenko V.K., 2000; Askarova D.A., 2000); possible circulation of a wild strain of measles virus; migration of the population due to wars during which immunization is not carried out. The causes of these cases of diseases may be the following: a) the highly contagious nature of the measles virus, overcoming vaccine immunity, despite the presence of specific antibodies; b) defects in immunization programs leading to incomplete vaccination coverage or errors in the vaccination process; c) lack of seroconversions due to the use of defective individual vaccine series (non-compliance with the cold chain) or tolerance of vaccinated persons ; d) transmission of the virus by immune individuals or the presence of asymptomatic cases of the vaccinated population.
