SPONTANEOUS DEPRESSED SKULL FRACTURE IN A FULL-TERM NEWBORN

Resume
Non-traumatic depressed skull fractures in newborns, known as "ping-pong" fractures, are uncommon, occurring at rates of 1 to 2.5 per 10,000 live births. These fractures are due to the pliability of the neonatal skull, which is not fully ossified. Treatment strategies depend on fracture severity, with conservative methods usually preferred. Surgical or device-based interventions may be necessary for severe cases. This case study describes a spontaneous ping-pong fracture in a full-term infant, detailing its clinical course and management. Despite the absence of neurological symptoms, surgical intervention was required due to brain compression. Delayed surgery followed by successful treatment led to excellent overall and neurological outcomes. This case underscores the importance of thorough clinical and neurological evaluations in managing rare neonatal skull fractures, including ping-pong fractures.
