Resume
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is one of the most common autoimmune rheumatic diseases, in the clinical picture of which chronic erosive arthritis prevails, leading to impaired joint function and disability of patients. Vitamin D is currently considered as a steroid hormone that plays an important role in bone homeostasis. In this way, it directly regulates the metabolism of calcium and phosphorus, promoting healthy mineralization, growth and bone remodeling. Vitamin D deficiency has been shown to be associated with a number of immunological disorders and may be one of the environmental risk factors of RA.
Key words: Rheumatoid arthritis, vitamin D, vitamin D receptor gene (VDR), osteoporosis.
