RESEARCH RESULTS OF THE INFLUENCE OF WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ON AMMONIA CONCENTRATION IN COWBARS

Resume
During the winter research period on a cattle farm with 200 tethered dairy cows and a natural ventilation system, the average ammonia concentration ranged between 5-8 mg/m3, which did not exceed the permissible limit of 10 mg/m3. At the same time, the natural background ammonia concentration in the area around the farm was 0.57-0.60 mg/m3. Significant fluctuations in ammonia concentration were observed in the barn throughout the day, with daytime and nighttime differences reaching up to twofold. Research in the barn with 200 tethered dairy cows showed that external weather conditions affected the redistribution of emitted ammonia within the space, creating zones of higher and lower concentration. Typically, on the windward side of the barn, ammonia concentration was 20-50% lower than on the leeward side; increasing wind speed helped reduce ammonia concentration in the barn.
