PROBLEMS WITH PROVIDING DRINKING WATER TO SETTLEMENTS LOCATED FAR FROM THE DISTRICT CENTER

Resume

Currently, significant efforts are underway in independent Uzbekistan to ensure the population has access to clean drinking water. Naturally, water supply systems are expanding, becoming technically more sophisticated and complex. Facilities that draw water from underground and surface sources are growing in scale, transport distances are increasing, and water treatment processes and facilities are becoming more complicated due to ecological conditions. Consistent implementation of key programs and projects to develop the drinking water supply system in Uzbekistan is leading to substantial improvements in centralized water supply in cities, districts, and especially rural areas. Several regulatory standards exist in the Republic: the Law of Uzbekistan on “Water and Water Use,” UzDST 950:2011 “Drinking Water. Hygienic Requirements and Quality Control,” UzDST 951:2011 “Centralized Drinking-Utility Water Supply Sources. Hygienic Technical Requirements and Selection Criteria,” and QMQ 2.04.02-97 “Water Supply. External Networks and Facilities.” There remain numerous unresolved issues related to the provision of high-quality drinking water, including efficient and effective production, delivery, and distribution.
