INDICATORS OF COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE

Objective: To study the role of COPD in the formation of cognitive impairments and their characteristics at various stages of COPD. Materials and methods: the study included 40 people divided into two groups: 21 patients with COPD and 19 conditionally healthy volunteers. All the subjects underwent: general clinical examination, spirometry, CAT assessment test and assessment of cognitive functions using the MoCA test, MMSE test. Results: patients with COPD have a decrease in cognitive functions according to the MoCA test. The greatest contribution to cognitive decline in patients with COPD is made by impaired visual-constructive/executive skills, memory changes, impaired abstraction and attention disorders. It was found that in COPD patients, the overall score of the MoCA test and MMSE test correlates with the smoking index. Group D COPD patients have lower cognitive function scores compared to the group. Conclusion: COPD patients have a marked decrease in cognitive functions. More often, there is a decrease in visual-constructive and executive skills, abstraction, as well as attention.
