THE IMPORTANCE OF H. PYLORI INFECTION IN THE PATHOGENESIS OF ULCER DISEASE

Resume

Helicobacter pylori infection is one of the most common chronic infections on the globe. The leading role of H. pylori infection in the development of peptic ulcer disease is currently beyond doubt and has been confirmed by the results of clinical and epidemiological studies. The development of 60-80% of duodenal ulcers and 50-70% of gastric ulcers is due to the course of H. pylori infection. Numerous studies have shown that H. pylori plays a leading role in the development of aggression factors and reduces the activity of protective factors in peptic ulcer disease. Large-scale eradication of the infection has led to a reduction in the prevalence of the disease, the frequency of ulcer recurrence, and the number of hospitalized patients, which has significantly reduced the total financial costs of this pathology in developed countries.
