SURGICAL TACTICS FOR SPONTANEOUS PNEMOTHORAX

Resume

This article discusses the surgical treatment strategy for spontaneous pneumothorax (SP) — a significant issue in modern thoracic surgery. The primary causes of SP include ruptured bullae, thin-walled pulmonary cysts, ruptured echinococcal cysts, and other pathological conditions leading to lung tissue rupture and collapse. Surgical intervention focuses on eliminating the source of the pneumothorax and preventing recurrence. This is achieved through resection of bullous lung tissue and pleurodesis. With the advancement of minimally invasive techniques, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has become the standard treatment method, enabling both pure endoscopic and video-assisted procedures. The study includes 102 patients with SP. In most cases, the cause was bullous emphysema. The most common forms were total and large pneumothorax. The data support the high efficacy of VATS in treating and preventing SP recurrence.
