Resume

This article examines the coping strategies employed by patients with chronic kidney failure (CKF) who are undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. The relevance of the topic is determined by the high prevalence of psycho-emotional stress, anxiety, and reduced quality of life among this patient group. As part of a clinical and psychological evaluation of 80 patients treated in a specialized nephrology center, the main types of coping behavior were analyzed depending on the stage of the disease. It was found that patients at stage III of CKF more frequently use confrontational and responsible coping strategies, whereas those at stages IV–V tend to resort to avoidance, denial, and emotional withdrawal. A correlation was also identified between the disease stage, the intensity of coping mechanisms, and the level of quality of life. The more advanced the disease, the higher the indicators of depression, the lower the physical activity, and the more impaired the cognitive and social functions. These findings emphasize the need for comprehensive psychological support for CKF patients on hemodialysis to prevent maladaptive behaviors and improve overall mental health.
