Resume

Objective. To demonstrate recent advances in bariatric surgery for obesity and metabolic syndrome management. Key points. The article provides data on the global prevalence of obesity, outlines the indications and technical features of bariatric surgery, and describes physiological and biochemical changes in the postoperative period. A number of studies are presented that prove the effectiveness of bariatric surgery as a possible monotherapy for the metabolic syndrome. Conclusions. Bariatric surgery is a rapidly developing field that has demonstrated its efficacy in managing obesity and the metabolic syndrome, including diabetes. Surgical techniques are being refined to enhance well-being and tackle coexisting conditions. The growing demand for revision surgeries highlights the necessity of multidisciplinary cooperation and ongoing enhancement in addressing chronic conditions like obesity
