Resume

The aim of the work: to study the clinical, neurological and molecular genetic features of COVID-19 associated cavernous sinus thrombosis in patients with diabetes mellitus. Materials and methods of the study: 147 patients with cavernous sinus thrombosis (CST) after coronavirus were studied. The patients were divided into groups: 1) the main group - patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), n=103, 2) the control group - without type 2 DM, n=44. Results: During the molecular genetic study, 2 alleles of the MTHFR gene (Ala and Val) and 3 genotypes Ala/Ala, Ala/Val, Val/Val were identified (see Table 1). When carrying the mutational homozygous genotype Val/Val, the risk and chance of the disease increases by OR=2.1 and OR=2.4 times (p˂0.05)

Key words: cavernous sinus thrombosis, hypercoagulability, Ala222Val (665C>T) polymorphism of the MTHFR gene
