Resume

In patients diagnosed with carotid atherosclerosis, the levels of zinc in hair, atherosclerotic plaque (ASP), and blood serum were studied in groups with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Correlations between zinc concentrations in these biosubstrates were analyzed. In patients with T2DM, decreased zinc levels were observed in both hair and ASP samples. A positive correlation was also found between zinc levels in blood serum and those in atherosclerotic plaques

Key words: Zinc of the serum, hair, atherosclerotic plaques of carotid artery, carotid atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes mellitus
