Resume

The aim of the open, observational study was to examine the effect of black garlic in mono- and adjuvant therapy to statins on the dynamics of lipid profile parameters in patients with cardiovascular diseases. 98 patients (35 women and 63 men) with various CVD and dyslipidemia were examined. Patients were divided into 3 groups taking into account the severity of dyslipidemia. The lipid profile was assessed using four parameters determined in a blood biochemistry test: total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglycerides. In group 1 (n=43), the effect of black garlic monotherapy (750 mg per day) on the lipid profile was assessed; in group 2 (n=27), patients followed a low-fat diet without pharmacotherapy; in group 3 (n=28), the dynamics of the lipid profile was studied with the combined use of black garlic (750 mg per day) and a statin (rosuva- or atorva-) in average therapeutic doses of 5-10 mg and 10-20 mg, respectively. The duration of treatment and observation was 8 weeks. Recommendations: Black Garlic at a dose of 750 mg per day in monotherapy significantly reduces the levels of TC, LDL-C and TG, is well tolerated and can be recommended for patients with CVD who are intolerant to statins. At the same time, the authors believe that further, larger-scale studies of black garlic are needed as an effective alternative, affordable and safe hypolipidemic agent from the arsenal of ancient and modern folk medicine from the standpoint of evidence-based medicine.
