Anemia of prematurity is currently one of the main problems of modern neonatology, acquiring special relevance among deeply premature newborns. The incidence of early anemia of prematurity, according to different authors, ranges from 16.5% to 91.3% and has an inverse correlation with gestational age and birth weight [5, 6]. This article describes the results of a study on methods to optimize the prevention and treatment of early anemia in preterm infants with extremely low birth weight. It was found that the risk of severe anemia in preterm infants is increased in the presence of anemic syndrome in women, in the absence of “decanting” of the umbilical cord, low Apgar score, and the presence of congenital infection.
