Resume
In the present study, to assess the contribution of genetic predisposition to the development and progression of myopia, we investigated the population frequencies and the pathogenic role of the TGFB1 gene polymorphism rs1800469 in the population of the Fergana Valley. Materials and Methods. To determine the genotype and allele frequencies of the TGFB1 gene polymorphism, a comparative study was conducted using samples from conditionally healthy individuals without ocular pathology (control group, n = 220) and patients diagnosed with myopia (main group, n = 260). The main group was further divided into subgroups based on the severity of myopia: subgroup A — patients with mild myopia (n = 60), subgroup B — patients with moderate myopia (n = 68), and subgroup C — patients with high myopia (n = 132). The study followed a case-control design by comparing the two cohorts: patients and conditionally healthy individuals. Results. Data obtained from the Fergana Valley population demonstrated a significant association between the "unfavorable" Tallele of the rs1800469 (C509T) polymorphism in the TGFB1 gene and the development of high myopia. Conversely, carriage of the "wild-type" C/C genotype was associated with greater resistance to the progression of severe refractive disorders.
