Resume

Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD) complicated by myofascial pain syndrome is a polyetiological condition characterized by significant neurological and neuropsychological disturbances. Current research emphasizes the central mechanisms of chronic pain, the role of neuroplasticity, as well as psycho-emotional and cognitive alterations. This article presents a review of recent data on the pathogenesis, neuroimaging findings, molecular markers, and therapeutic opportunities involving advanced technologies such as VR, TENS, exoskeletons, and artificial intelligence (AI). The necessity of an interdisciplinary approach is highlighted.

Keywords: TMJD, myofascial pain syndrome, central sensitization, neuroimaging, cognitive impairments, CGRP, TENS, artificial intelligence, exoskeleton, neuropsychology.
