Resume
A range of neurological disorders, particularly cognitive impairments, accompanies chronic cerebral ischemia (CCI). In recent years, hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) has been considered an important pathogenic factor in the development of this condition. This study investigated the relationship between serum homocysteine levels and cognitive function in 120 patients with CCI. Based on clinical-neurological, neuropsychological, laboratory, and instrumental assessments, the degree of cognitive impairment was determined according to the stage of CCI. It was statistically confirmed that elevated homocysteine levels are associated with the progression of cognitive decline. Based on the study results, a diagnostic algorithm was proposed, based on homocysteine indicators.
