Resume

In experimental extrahepatic cholestasis, the activity of the liver’s antioxidant defense systems was evaluated. Extrahepatic cholestasis is accompanied by a decrease in SOD activity and a compensatory increase in catalase activity, which at early stages reflects an adaptive response to enhanced lipid peroxidation, while prolonged obstruction leads to depletion of the antioxidant defense and progressive liver tissue damage.
