FEATURES OF URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS DURING PREGNANCY AND THEIR IMPACT ON DELIVERY OUTCOMES

Khamraev Kh.Kh. - Kattakurgan City Medical Association

Resume

To assess the prevalence, risk factors, etiological structure, and impact of urinary tract infections (UTIs) on pregnancy course and perinatal outcomes. A retrospective cohort analysis was conducted among pregnant women who were observed and delivered at the Kattakurgan City Medical Association, Samarkand region, during 2024–2025. Out of 1217 pregnancy records, 386 cases were included in the final sample: the main group — 282 women with laboratory-confirmed UTI, and the control group — 104 women without signs of infection. The presence of UTI was associated with higher rates of preterm birth, low birth weight, fetal hypoxia, and increased perinatal mortality. The risk of adverse outcomes was 2–2.5 times higher compared with the control group. The findings emphasize the need for regular microbiological monitoring, rational (targeted) antibiotic therapy, and the implementation of a multifactorial risk prediction model to ensure timely detection and prevention of pregnancy complications.

Keywords: pregnancy; urinary tract infection; asymptomatic bacteriuria; cystitis; pyelonephritis; antibiotic resistance; perinatal outcomes; preterm birth.
