VENOUS THROMBOSIS IN ONCOHEMATOLOGICAL PATIENTS: PREVENTION AND TREATMENT

Resume

Venous thromboembolism represents a frequent and potentially life-threatening complication in patients with hematologic malignancies. The incidence of VTE varies depending on the disease subtype, stage, and intensity of therapy, reaching its highest rates in acute leukemias and multiple myeloma. Antineoplastic treatment, including the use of asparaginase, anthracyclines, and immunomodulatory agents, significantly increases the risk of thrombosis. Additional contributing factors include bone marrow transplantation, central venous catheterization, infectious complications, and inflammatory responses. The pathogenesis of thrombosis in oncohematologic patients is multifactorial, involving activation of the coagulation cascade by malignant cells, hemostatic imbalance, and endothelial dysfunction. Clinical diagnosis is often challenging due to nonspecific symptoms and cytopenic syndromes, requiring high clinical vigilance and the use of imaging techniques. Thrombosis prevention should be considered an integral component of the comprehensive management of patients with hematologic malignancies.
