PROGNOSTIC MARKERS IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA IN PATIENTS WITH METABOLIC SYNDROME

Resume

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) syndrome is a common breathing disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of partial or complete upper airway obstruction during sleep. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1 billion people worldwide suffer from OSA, which results in significant socio-economic damage (Senaratna et al., 2017). Metabolic Syndrome (MetS), which includes obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and impaired glucose metabolism, plays a major role in its risk structure. Studies show that patients with MetS have a 2-3 times higher risk of developing OSA compared to individuals without metabolic disorders (Peppard et al., 2013). The differentiation and timely treatment of obstructive sleep apnea require the use of modern diagnostic methods, among which functional diagnostic markers are of particular importance. They allow not only for diagnosing the disease but also for predicting its course, assessing the effectiveness of therapy, and preventing the development of complications.

Keywords: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), Metabolic Syndrome (MetS), obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia.
