Resume
Bipolar affective disorder is a severe chronic mental illness that causes cognitive impairment and increased suicidal tendencies. The study included 68 patients with bipolar affective disorder, whose cognitive functions were assessed: verbal memory, working memory, speech rate, speech fluency, executive functions, speed of attention and thinking, speed of information processing, affective processing and emotional involvement. Changes in behavior with an impulsive tendency, signs of mental instability indicated a deficit in cognitive functions. In patients, it was found that a delay in answering a question, difficulty in cognitive flexibility and a violation of such activities as conflict monitoring and answer selection lead to a decrease in the quality of life. For the functional restoration of cognitive deficits, an integrated approach is necessary, and nootropic drugs are effective in treatment.
Keywords: bipolar disorders, affective, cognitive disorders, executive functions, treatment.
