Resume
More than half of pregnant women suffer from nausea and vomiting, which usually begin by the 5th week and disappear by the 16th week of pregnancy. The cause of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy is unknown, but may be associated with increased hormone levels. The aim of the study was to determine the diagnostic and prognostic significance of the GDF-15 (Growth Differentiation Factor-15) hormone level in the blood serum of pregnant women with early toxicosis. The study included 120 pregnant women at 6-12 weeks of gestation: 80 with varying degrees of toxicosis and 40 healthy controls. It was found that the GDF-15 level is significantly elevated in toxicosis and directly correlates with the severity of clinical manifestations: from 3180±760 pg/ml in mild to 6720±1250 pg/ml in severe form (p<0.001). ROC analysis showed high prognostic significance of the indicator (AUC=0.89); the threshold value >4000 pg/ml has a sensitivity of 82% and a specificity of 78%. The obtained data confirm the role of GDF-15 as a pathogenetic and prognostic biomarker, allowing for the early identification of women at risk of severe toxicosis and the justification of personalized preventive tactics.
