Resume
Induction of labor is a common obstetric practice, the effectiveness of which depends on many factors, such as the condition of the cervix, hormonal levels, and the general somatic condition of the woman.Recent studies have shown that women with anemia are more likely to have unsuccessful induction of labor, prolonged labor, and operative delivery (cesarean section). There is evidence in the scientific literature that women with low iron levels have reduced uterine contractions, a weakened response to induction of labor, resistance to prostaglandin drugs, prolonged labor, and an increased likelihood of operative delivery.Furthermore, alterations in placental oxygenation and metabolic response in women with low ferritin levels may result in decreased neonatal adaptation.Due to similar mechanisms, ferritin is considered a biomarker of iron status, a clinical marker with prognostic value not only in the diagnosis of anemia but also in predicting the effectiveness of labor induction.
Key words: prediction of labor induction, iron metabolism, overt anemia, neonatal outcomes.
