Resume

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication associated with significant maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. The disease presents with newly diagnosed maternal hypertension and often proteinuria, which can progress to multiorgan dysfunction, including liver, kidney, and cerebral disease, if the fetus and placenta are not delivered. Maternal endothelial dysfunction due to circulating fetal factors from the placenta is a hallmark of preeclampsia. In this article, the authors present the latest research on genetic markers of preeclampsia and new diagnostic methods.

Key words: preeclampsia, eclampsia, maternal and perinatal mortality, obstetric pathology.
