EARLY RISK IDENTIFICATION AND REFERRAL PATHWAYS IN PRIMARY ANTENATAL CARE

Resume
Many pregnancy complications can be prevented or mitigated through early risk identification and timely referral. In primary antenatal care, midwives and general practitioners should routinely assess the risk of preeclampsia, venous thromboembolism (VTE), and fetal growth restriction while combining history-taking with screening (blood pressure, proteinuria, haemoglobin, etc.). This paper summarizes key risk factors, mandatory assessments, patient education on warning signs, and referral criteria to an obstetrician–gynecologist. The structure of the 25-week visit is presented as an example of dynamic risk reassessment and preventive counselling.
Keywords: preeclampsia, venous thromboembolism, fetal growth restriction, screening, referral pathways, primary care, risk factors
