THE ROLE OF LIPOPHILIC YEAST-LIKE FUNGI IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS

Resume
Opportunistic microorganisms play an important role in the clinical course of seborrheic dermatitis and, due to their virulence, lead to the progression of the disease into chronic forms. The article presents that yeast-like fungi of the genus Malassezia, which are a permanent component of the normal skin microflora, are considered the leading etiological factor of seborrheic dermatitis. At the same time, conditions such as hyperfunction of the sebaceous glands, zinc deficiency, and immunodeficiency, by enhancing the lipophilic properties of the fungi, lead to an increase in their pathogenicity for the host organism and to the development of inflammatory reactions in the skin.
Keywords: seborrheic dermatitis; yeast-like fungi of the genus Malassezia — M. furfur, M. globosa, M. sympodialis, which colonize the skin.
