Resume
This study investigates morphological and morphometric alterations in the pancreatic tissues of white outbred rats of different ages (3 and 12 months) subjected to chronic carbon monoxide (СО₂) exposure. Histological evaluation was performed using hematoxylin and eosin staining. The results demonstrated that long-term low-dose exposure to carbon monoxide induces significant structural damage in both the exocrine and endocrine components of the pancreas. In 3-month-old rats, acinar cell vacuolization, a reduction in secretory granules, decreased nuclear diameter, β-cell dystrophy in the islets of Langerhans, and microcirculatory disturbances were observed. In 12-month-old rats, these pathological changes were more severe and irreversible, characterized by acinar atrophy, endocrine tissue destruction, fibrosis, and microangiopathy. Morphometric analysis confirmed an age-dependent intensification of the toxic-hypoxic effects of carbon monoxide and a pronounced disruption of pancreatic structural and functional integrity. These findings provide valuable insight into the pathogenesis of pancreatic damage under chronic carbon monoxide intoxication and may serve as a scientific basis for preventive and therapeutic strategies.
Key words: carbon monoxide, pancreas, acinar dystrophy, islets of Langerhans, hypoxia, morphometry, microangiopathy.
