Resume

This article presents the results of assessing the relationship between the degree of internet addiction and the cognitive and psychoemotional status of athletes in team sports (football, basketball, volleyball) aged 16–21 years. The study included 96 participants, distributed by sport and gender. Internet addiction was assessed using the Kimberly Young Internet Addiction Test (IAT); cognitive status was evaluated using the Shulte tables, Stroop test, correction test, and the MoCA scale; psychoemotional state was assessed using the Spielberger–Hanin anxiety scales, Beck Depression Inventory, and the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire. Results showed that as the degree of internet addiction increased, there was a significant decrease in information processing speed, attention concentration, cognitive control, and overall cognitive status. At the same time, reactive and personal anxiety, depressive symptoms, and emotional burnout increased. Correlation analysis revealed statistically significant relationships between internet addiction and cognitive as well as psychoemotional indicators (r = 0.44–0.59; p < 0.01–0.001). Multivariate regression analysis confirmed that anxiety partially mediates the effect of internet addiction on cognitive decline.
