Resume
Cardioesophageal cancer (CEC) is one of the most aggressive malignancies of the gastroesophageal junction, characterized by early metastasis and poor prognosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the long-term outcomes of surgical and combined treatment approaches in patients with CEC. A total of 237 patients underwent radical surgical treatment, and long-term outcomes were assessed in 203 (85.6%) of them. Treatment effectiveness was evaluated based on quality of life using the Karnofsky scale, overall survival, recurrence-free survival, and metastasis-free survival. The results demonstrated that combined therapy (surgery combined with neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy) significantly improved the 5-year overall survival rate from 37.9% to 53.4%. Additionally, tumor histological type and degree of differentiation were identified as important prognostic factors influencing treatment outcomes.
Keywords: cardioesophageal cancer, surgical treatment, combined therapy, quality of life, survival, recurrence, metastasis.
