Resume

Nutrition status disorders are a common problem in children with cerebral palsy. In patients with spastic forms of the disease, energy expenditure is increased due to constant muscle hypertonicity, while actual nutrient intake is often reduced. This leads to protein-energy malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and decreased muscle mass. The aim of the study was to investigate the pathogenetic features of nutritional disorders in children aged 3–14 years with spastic forms of cerebral palsy and to assess their impact on functional motor abilities and rehabilitation potential. The study included 36 children with spastic cerebral palsy, intact intelligence, and severe motor impairments. Anthropometric parameters, subcutaneous fat thickness, and a number of blood biochemical parameters were assessed. The findings indicate a high prevalence of protein-energy malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies, which may reduce the effectiveness of physical therapy and modern robotic rehabilitation methods.

Key words: cerebral palsy, spasticity, nutritional status, rehabilitation, biochemical parameters, anthropometry.
