Resume

This article evaluates the efficacy of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) added to standard H. pylori eradication for treating peptic ulcer disease (PUD) in postmenopausal women. 120 women were enrolled: fertile (n=53) and postmenopausal (n=67), subdivided into Group 2a (eradication, n=34) and 2b (eradication+HRT, n=33). Pain syndrome predominated in fertile women (98%), while dyspeptic complaints were characteristic of postmenopausal patients (p<0.001). Estradiol was 32.7±1.24 pg/mL in postmenopause — six-fold lower (p<0.001). Combined therapy raised estradiol to 92.4±3.5 pg/mL (p<0.001) with significant improvement in clinical, cognitive and autonomic parameters. Results justify mandatory inclusion of HRT in PUD treatment protocols for postmenopausal women.

Keywords: peptic ulcer disease, postmenopause, estrogen deficiency, hormone replacement therapy, H. pylori eradication, estradiol, quality of life.
