Resume

Today, the use of several types of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), as well as nicotine and alcohol consumption, is increasingly widespread worldwide and has become an urgent problem, with a noticeable shift toward younger age groups. Research evidence indicates that these factors exert a significant impact on the esophageal wall. The esophagus is a well-vascularized tubular organ that connects the pharynx to the stomach; various harmful environmental factors not only have a direct toxic effect on the esophageal mucosa but also adversely affect its motility and peristalsis. This article discusses and reviews the scientific studies conducted worldwide to date that focus on the effects of NSAIDs, nicotine, and alcohol on the esophagus.
