Resume

Оbjective: Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) plays an important role in the pathophysiology of primary headaches, especially tension type headaches. This study aimed to investigate the amount of BDNF in patients with tension-type headache (TTH) and its relationship with the clinical course of the disease.

Material and methods: For this study, 48 female and male patients with TTH were selected and divided into 3 groups: infrequent TTH, frequent TTH, chronic TTH. The latest 2018 edition of the International Headache Classification was used to diagnose patients. For the control group, 20 people without TTH were selected. BDNF levels were measured in all patients and compared with those in the control group.

Results: the amount of BDNF in the blood of patients with infrequent TTH was 816.9±67 pg/ml, 788.6±57 pg/ml in patients with frequent TTH, and 880.4±29 pg/ml in chronic TTH.

Conclusion: This study is the first research in Uzbekistan to show changes in BDNF levels in patients with TTH. It reinforces the idea that BDNF may be involved in the pathophysiology of primary headaches, particularly TTH.

Keywords: headache, gender, BDNF, pain, tension-type headache, neurotrophic factor.
