Resume,

Objective: To study the epidemiological indicators of cancer of the red border of the lips with the characteristic tactics of treating patients for the subsequent determination of the role of the dentist in the early diagnosis of oncopathology on an outpatient basis.

Material and methods: accounting and reporting forms of the Ivanovo Regional Oncologic Dispensary, a retrospective analysis of case histories of patients of the surgical department of the head and neck for the period from 2010 to 2017 with a morphologically confirmed diagnosis of tongue cancer.

Results: the incidence of cancer of the tongue in the Ivanovo region tends to increase, as well as throughout the Russian Federation. Active detection of precancerous diseases and malignant diseases in the Ivanovo region in 2017 amounted to 26.67%. From 2010 to 2017, on the basis of the Ivanovo Regional Oncologic Dispensary, 67% of cases of cancer of the tongue were detected at an advanced stage. What could be connected both with the late appealability of the patients themselves for help and the late detection of pathology by primary      care physicians. Therefore, at present, there is a need to increase the literacy of the population in questions of oncopathology and to increase the level of oncological alertness of dentists.

Conclusion: Due to the early detection of oncopathology, it will be possible to increase the five-year survival rates and cope with the disease with radiation treatment methods with minimal surgical interventions.
