Resume,
A comparative analysis of the EEG data of studies of women with catamenial and symptomatic epilepsy in various phases of the menstrual cycle in a comparable aspect was performed. The object of the study was 100 women. Of these, 60 suffered from TBE (group I), 20 women with symptomatic (non-catamenial) epilepsy (group II), and 20 healthy women. When conducting a qualitative analysis of the EEG, we were guided by the classification of E.A. Zhirmunskaya and V.S. Losev. In addition, neurophysiological indicators such as the alpha index and the paroxysmality index were studied. during the study, EEG patterns of catamenial epilepsy were specified. According to the results of the study, these can be not only the traditionally distinguished sharp-slow wave pattern, the peak is waves, paroxysms of high- amplitude delta waves, but also a significant decrease in the alpha activity index and an increase in the paroxysmality index. As the analysis of this index showed, in various brain conditions it was different and depended on the phase of the menstrual cycle. We noted the greatest fluctuations with hyperventilation in the group of patients with catamenial epilepsy.
Key words: catamenial epilepsy, symptomatic epilepsy, alpha index, paroxysmality index, hormonal imbalance, hyperestrogenemia.
